ROSEMARS
Rosemars

V.N. Gajarajan (Rosemars) Born on 24th April 1938 in Bangalore, India, V.N. Gajarajan, affectionately known as Rosemars, was the son of V.K. Narayana Swamy Mudhaliar and Radha Bhai Ammal, both of whom were well-educated individuals. Gajarajan, a B.Sc. graduate, was blessed with one son and one daughter.
In his younger years, Rosemars developed a love for English films, particularly the Republic serials and Flash Gordon. One of his most notable achievements was watching the movie Spy Smasher an astonishing 111 times. His passion for creativity led him to start a music troupe called Crimson Pirates, which performed in clubs and auditoriums, entertaining audiences with unique blends of music and performance.
In his mid-thirties, Gajarajan embarked on a significant artistic venture when, at the age of 36, he choreographed and performed the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in Bharatanatyam at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. His talents didnt stop there—on 20th October 1973, he conducted a pioneering musical programme titled EAST Meets the WEST at Baldwin Boys High School. This program featured Carnatic music for Indian classical dances, while English lyrics were sung to Western instrumental arrangements. The performance even depicted the love story of Radha and Krishna, which deeply resonated with the audience. His work was widely praised, with a mention in the Hindu newspaper on 25th October 1973.
In 1975, Gajarajan made another significant contribution to cultural fusion. On 7th
December, he presented a performance dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. The program
featured Indian classical dances and songs in English, with Western instruments
accompanying the deep and thought-provoking lyrics. Some of the key questions posed in
the performance included:
1. Do we truly repay the Lord’s debt when we place money in His Hundi?
2. What would you ask of the Lord if He appeared before you?
3. Why must we climb the holy hills on foot?
These songs were released by Late Sr. Anna Rao, the Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD), in the presence of Late Sri Mohanlal Sukhadia, the then Governor of Karnataka, and Rev. Father Long, a respected figure from the C.S.S.R., at Town Hall, Bangalore. The event gained recognition in the Deccan Herald on 29th November 1975. Nearly 25 years later, on 15th December 2002, the same songs were released in CD and audio cassette formats at Hotel Rama. The release was jointly done by Smt. Indrakshi Devi, daughter of the late Maharaja of Mysore, and Sri T. Murali Krishna, the then manager of the TTD Information Center in Bangalore. These audio cassettes and CDs are available for sale upon request.
Gajarajan's love for blending cultural expressions continued in 1976 with his GLORY OF VIRGIN MOTHER MARY, an Indian Classical Ballet in English, performed at Town Hall, Bangalore. The performance aimed to promote universal peace through love.
Rosemars: A Creative Journey from Music to Film and Fiction Writing Rosemars, the nom-de-plume of V.N. Gajarajan, was a man of many talents and passions. He was not only a gifted musician, filmmaker, and writer, but also a physiognomist, soothsayer, onelroscopist, and a researcher in the realms of séance, clairvoyance, reincarnation, dimensions beyond, occult sciences, life after death, and demonology. His fascination with the mystical and unexplained forces that shape human existence added a unique dimension to his creative works. These interests also fuelled his storytelling, often blending the supernatural with his artistic pursuits.
However, his artistic pursuits didn’t stop there. Gajarajan later turned his focus to filmmaking, producing and directing a Kannada film titled Dhara in 1982. Released in Bangalore theatres, the film tells a heartfelt love story about a protagonist who is a die-hard fan of the legendary Elvis Presley. The hero’s admiration for Elvis’s music and persona plays a significant role in his character development and romantic journey. Elvis’s influence is woven throughout the narrative, providing both musical nostalgia and emotional depth. The film's soundtrack of timeless Elvis songs serves as emotional anchors, enhancing the hero’s journey of self-discovery and love.
In addition to music and filmmaking, Gajarajan was an avid reader, with his home filled with novels. He drew inspiration from a range of authors, including James Hadley Chase, Harold Robbins, Sydney Sheldon, James Green (aka "Sudden"), Carter Brown, and many others. These writers shaped his storytelling style, fostering his love for intriguing plots and gripping narratives. This influence can be seen in his own works, where complex characters and suspenseful storylines take center stage.
At the age of 70, Gajarajan, under his pen name Rosemars, embarked on yet another creative journey—writing fiction novels. His debut novel, Evenlina Kumari Richmond – The American Indian Girl, tells the powerful story of Evenlina Kumari, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who is an ardent Elvis Presley fan. Evenlina faces numerous hardships, and at one point, she nearly succumbs to despair, attempting suicide. However, she is saved by what can only be described as the ethereal presence of Elvis Presley’s spirit. His guidance helps her through the darkest moments of her life, restoring her hope and strength. The novel beautifully blends themes of perseverance, love, and the healing power of music, with Elvis’s influence offering solace and inspiration to Evenlina in her time of need.
Evenlina Kumari Richmond – The American Indian Girl will be officially released in India on 24th April 2025, which coincides with Rosemars’s birthday. The paperback version will be available for purchase through online retail stores in India, including Amazon Seller Central and Flipkart. Links to order the paperback novel will be provided to make it accessible to readers in India.
Following the paperback release in India, the e-book version will be made available worldwide shortly after through major e-book distribution channels such as Apple, Google Play, Kobo, Overdrive, eBooks2go, and Prowness.
Following Evenlina Kumari Richmond, Rosemars wrote several non-fiction books, including Diana Before Diana / Elvis the Son of Sun and Why I(We) Worship Elvis. These works continue to explore themes of identity, passion, and the profound impact of music and cultural icons—especially Elvis Presley. Through his characters and narratives, Rosemars celebrates the power of music, love, and the lasting influence of these legends.
Rosemars (V.N. Gajarajan) was a fervent devotee of Elvis Aaron Presley, the legendary singer from the USA, and Her Royal Highness, Diana, the late Princess of Wales. He revered both figures not only for their cultural significance but also for their deeply human qualities. Elvis’s music and persona shaped much of Rosemars’s work, while Diana's compassion and grace inspired him in various facets of his creative life.
